To mark the official launch of its BLOG on Arms Control and Disarmament Issues, the Strategic Studies Institute Islamabad is holding a competition for College/University Students across Pakistan. The BLOG seeks to encourage debate & foster new thinking about Arms Control and Disarmament issues in Pakistan.
We are looking for Fresh thinking and a compelling writing style. All Blog Entries submitted to the competition must focus on non-proliferation issues.

Students from schools, colleges and universities from Islamabad and Rawalpindi aged between 17 and 30 are eligible to apply.
We’re interested in new insights, different perspectives, and creative approaches for addressing the most pressing proliferation challenges in contemporary South Asia.
- Blogs should be non-technical. No footnotes or citations are allowed.
- Submissions should be no longer than 1000 words.
- AVOID USING THE THEME TITLE AS THE TITLE OF YOUR ESSAY. BE CREATIVE.
Submissions for the 2014 competition are now open. Closing date for submissions is November 20th, 2014. Results of the competition will be announced in December 2014.

The results will be announced as determined by our panel of judges. There will be two categories for the competition i.e. School/College Students and University Students. Winning entries will be published on the SSII BLOG.
SSII reserves the right to select fewer than two winners if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries. Judges’ decisions are final and binding on all matters relating to this competition.
The Strategic Studies Institute Islamabad (SSII) is a research and training organisation conducting outreach and training on important issues related to Pakistan’s security. The SSII has conducted successful workshops at various universities across Pakistan. We also routinely conduct workshops, seminars and trainings at our premises in Islamabad for journalists and students representing local colleges and universities.

Please make sure you follow the submission guide below. Entries that do not comply fully with this guide will not be accepted.
Entries must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.doc) format. DO NOT send the essay text in the body of an email.
The Blog Entry must be written in English, double spaced, no longer than 1,000 words and contain no abstract, list of references or footnotes.
Save your files only with the essay title as the file name. DO NOT start or include “SSII BLOG competition” or any other such generic statement in the file name.
DO NOT use the theme title as the title of your BLOG. If you cannot be creative in your title, you will probably not get far in the competition!
The Microsoft Word document with your BLOG should also include in the same document the name, street/postal address and email addresses of the author.

In submitting your entry you are:
- warranting that you are the author/s or rightful owner of the copyright of the submitted work
- granting the SSII the permission to reproduce, print and publish your work with attribution
- confirming that you have read and that you accept the official terms and conditions outlined below
- warranting that, if the essay has been previously published or submitted for publication, you have the necessary permissions to submit your essay to this competition
All decisions made by SSII in the judging of entries to the Competition will be final.
SSII reserves the right to end or modify the competition if fraud or technical failures compromise the integrity of the competition as determined by its sole discretion.
Additionally, events may occur that render the competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond the control of SSII, and accordingly SSII may at its absolute discretion vary or amend the competition and the author/s agree that no liability shall attach to SSII as a result thereof.
